Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (August, 1994)
Authors: Samuel Taylor Coleridge and H. J. Jackson
Average review score:

The compositions if the greatest Romanticist ever
The Romantics redefined english literature, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge was one of the leaders. Between he and William Wordsworth, they WERE the movement. His vision, and glorified writing style still tantalize me to this day.

Sanctuaries of Spanish New Mexico
Published in Hardcover by University of California Press (December, 1993)
Authors: Marc Treib, Dorothee Imbert, Marc Trieb, and Jeremy B. Jackson
Average review score:

Don't leave it on your coffee table...
I love this book so much I bought a replacement copy after the first disappeared. The photos and text are inspiring -- you'll find yourself wandering northern New Mexico to see these magnificent buildings in the flesh (as I've done twice.) The authors do an excellent job of capturing the grandeur of these monuments. This is a coffee table book with soul.

Saturday Afternoons at the Old Met: The Metropolitan Opera Broadcasts 1931-1950
Published in Hardcover by Amadeus Pr (December, 1992)
Author: Paul J. Jackson
Average review score:

a feast of riches
Even glacing through this superbly written volume will whet the appetite to sample the riches Prof Jackson discusses in this thick volume. This is not a pedantic dissection of broadcast after broadcast. Prof Jackson flows from one to another (not always in chronological order) with ease and smoothness. His history of how the Met broadcasts began and the evolving politics over the ensuing seasons makes for fascinating reading.

Scatterbrain Sam
Published in Unknown Binding by Bt Bound (March, 2001)
Author: Ellen Jackson
Average review score:

A LESSON IN TENACITY AND COURAGE
Sam, as you might guess, is a little lacking in the gray matter department. Why, the fellow is so addlepated that he carries an alarm clock instead of a wristwatch, and travels to town by attaching a sail to his truck.

Well, Mensa candidate or not he's still one of the nicest boys around. But, he would like to have some help with his brains so he consults Widder Woman who promises, "I got something that'll fix your noggin, boy. You ever hear tell of glue stew?"

Sam's pleased as he thinks that potion will glue his brains together. That's especially important now because Sam is smitten with Maizie, so taken with her that when he sees her he grins "like a possum in a peanut patch."

One problem is that Maizie's as smart as a whip, and Sam is not. Second problem is that Maizie topples into the pot of glue stew.

Young readers learn that even the most daunting obstacles can be overcome with courage, tenacity, and a heart of gold!

The Scent
Published in Paperback by Buy Books on the web.com (1998)
Author: Jay Jackson
Average review score:

Excellent Horror Tale
The Scent is really a fast paced blood-fest. If you're squeamish...this is not for you. Jackson has a brutal elegance to his writing. I loved it and finished the read in one day. I'd like to know if he has anything else published.

Scholastic Encyclopedia of the North American Indian
Published in School & Library Binding by Scholastic (August, 1996)
Authors: James Ciment, Ronald Lafrance, and C. Jackson
Average review score:

Scholastic Wins Again!!
This book is wonderful for students, teachers, parents, and generally anyone who is wanting information on specific Native American tribes. I teach fifth grade social studies, and I am having my students do a research report on various tribes. This book is well organized, thourough, and yet to the point. The students were able to use this book to get started. Granted, they eventually had to get other resources, but this book got all their report jitters out of the way. This book encouraged the students to further their research with few worries.

Great reference book for Native American tribes.

Schrader on Schrader & Other Writings (Directors on Directors Series)
Published in Paperback by Faber & Faber (August, 1992)
Authors: Paul Schrader and Kevin Jackson
Average review score:

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Paul Schrader!
If you ever wondered what goes on in the mind of the screenwriter who gave us TAXI DRIVER and RAGING BULL (as well as directing such films as the remake of CAT PEOPLE and the literary biopic MISHIMA), then look no further than this absolutely wonderful collection of interviews with Paul Schrader. Covering everything from his thematic obsessions to his writing and directing methods (as well as including a selection of critical writings by Schrader from his pre-filmmaking days as a critic), Kevin Jackson has done a wonderful job with this book - my personal favorite in the great Faber & Faber series (which also includes CRONENBERG ON CRONENBERG and SCORSESE ON SCORSESE). Must reading!

The Scribner Encyclopedia of American Lives: 1994-1996 (Scribner Encyclopedia of American Lives, Vol 4)
Published in Hardcover by Charles Scribners Sons/Reference (December, 2000)
Authors: Kenneth T. Jackson, Karen Markoe, Arnold Markoe, and Charles Scribners Publishing
Average review score:

An indespensible reference
From Jerry Garcia to Richard Nixon to Charles Scribner to Tupac Shakur, this collection of biographies is difficult to put down. The recently deceased subjects of each biography come alive in the Enclopedia's concise, neat, and compelling form. A wonderful new volume to add to the already thriving set. I own both volumes 3 and 4, and I refer to them constantly for my American History classes at Princeton. I also periodically enjoy flipping through their pages randomly, and reading a short, yet interesting biography. For any lover of history, America, or biography, Scribner's Encyclopedia of American Lives cannot be topped.
